(Story War is a cool card game we’re making that’s like Apples to Apples combined with Dungeons and Dragons, read more about it here.)

Hey, so! Anybody who makes Story War fan art and posts fan art in the #Story War tag will get a Secret Code that can be used on our Kickstarter to get a special edition of the game at a discounted price! And our Kickstarter launches at the end of the month!

Fan art can be of any of the above characters or anything we’ve posted on our blog! Everything is fair game! (You can even feel free to mashup Story War characters with characters from other fandoms, that’s totally acceptable and kind of canon - our game is set in a world that exists between other fictional worlds, so random cameos aren’t totally out of place! You can draw characters fighting, hanging out, or just doing a cool dramatic pose!

What if you can’t draw, and still want a chance at the Secret Code?

That’s fine, by reblogging this post and following our blog you would be doing us a huge favor! So, we’ll go through the notes and pick 10 random people who reblogged this post and give them the Secret Code, in addition to anyone who submits fan art to the #Story War tag.

Alright? Cool! Go go go!

(PS: If you’re in NYC, you can come to our playtest on Saturday!)

OH YEAH! ONE MORE THING: We might be including a sheet of some fan art in the game itself as an additional little zine thing packaged with the cards. So if you submit fan art to the Story War tag, we might message you and ask if we can include it with the game itself!

Goodness gracious this is a thing I need to do. I didn’t get a chance to do the last one, I NEED TO DO THIS. NEED TO.

(Story War is a storytelling card game we’re developing, follow for more info)

Our last post got over 100 responses! OVER ONE HUNDRED! I’ve spent the last few hours reading all of them and I’m blown away. It feels amazing to see such great fan fiction based on something you helped create! I wish we had more prototypes to give away, but we only have three to spare, and we decided they’d go to:

Man okay so! With these three prototypes being sent off to these folk (once I track down their shipping addresses) we’ll only have a few left to continue to do playtests with! (If you’re in NYC, we’re doing this NYC playtest every single Saturday at 2pm.)

But ahhhh I don’t really care anyway, I wanna do another giveaway, because you guys are amazing! I’ll just have to order some more prototypes once I send the next batch out next week. Anyway, here is how we’re going to give away the next few prototypes:

Fan Art Contest Rules: Take any two characters from the above photoset and draw them fighting each other. Post it to your blog and tag it as #Story War so we can find it. You don’t have to reblog this post, but doing so would be super cool and helpful!

Okay! Fan art takes a little longer than fan fiction so I’m going to give you guys an entire week to do this. On Sunday, Jan 6th, I’ll go through the #Story War tag and pick some winners. I’ll even be periodically reblogging some throughout the week!

I’m so excited to see what you guys come up with!

- Brad

We just got a bunch of reblogs and a lot of people asking what Story War is and how they can buy it and stuff like that. Okay!
What is Story War?
It’s a card game for 3-to-8 players that combines storytelling and combat! It’s more about creativity and alluding to pop culture (or just regular culture) than it is about math or numbers. It takes about 30 minutes to play a full game, even with an 8 person game.
Players choose a Warrior card (like Medusa or Puss In Boots) from their hand to represent them in battle, then multiple players must work together as a team to defeat the players on the other side of the table. They can also use Treasure cards (like Excalibur or Flying Carpet) to get them out of a tight spot and turn the battle around! Each battle is also set on a Battlefield (like Beanstalk or Sleepy Village) and players can use the terrain to their advantage.
How does it actually work?
It’s structured similarly to Cards Against Humanity or Apples to Apples (ie, a player acting as a judge that changes on each turn) but it plays more like a super simplified version of Dungeons and Dragons. You could also say it’s like Smash Brothers with mythological creatures!
It’s really fun and it forces you to come up with ridiculous creative narratives and then you have to try to get your friends to go along with them. You’ll laugh a lot when you play it! Here’s a longer explanation!
Who is making Story War?
Three friends! Brad O’Farrell (me), Tom (Frezned), and  Vondell Swain. Vondell’s doing all of the art, I’m doing the creative direction and the game design, and Tom is also doing game design and business stuff and writing most of the jokes. There are jokes! Tom is a professional video game designer and Vondell is a professional illustrator (well he is now that we’re paying him) and I’m just a really fun guy.
How can I buy it?
You can’t yet! But you’ll be able to buy it soon! We’re going to launch a Kickstarter in early 2013. You should follow our blog if you want to be notified when the Kickstarter launches. In order to sell the game at a reasonable price and recoup the money we’ve already invested into this project, we’re going to need to get a critical mass of preorders via Kickstarter. Also if the Kickstarter is really successful we’ll be able to funnel that into an expansion!
What can I do to help?
Until we launch the Kickstarter all you can really do is get the word out and send people to this blog! I guess you could reblog this post or one of our other more interesting posts. Also if you’re an artist and you wanna get involved, email brad@cantripgames.com with some links to your work! But just being excited is really helpful, too! We’re also pretty excited!

Here’s a post about the game I’m working on.

This looks legit and I want a set.  I wonder if I’ll have time to help with this over winter break? :O

Funny Angry from the Dynamite Headdy Soundtrack.

This game was so good. A great example of a Genesis platformer and the music is just.. wonderful. Almost all Treasure Games are absolutely perfect. No exception here!

This is cool. I come home from work and get to see, ooh, what did Xolorneko post tonight?!

I AM WAY TOO PUMPED ABOUT QUEUING POSTS.

So I used to play a lot of Spiral Knights. Not so much nowadays, but I still like to burn up my mist daily by messing around here and there.

This game has some adorable customization. And here are all of my outfits that I alternate throughout whenever I feel like it. >:3 #kawaiiknights

I really should start accessorizing more. The only accessory I own is that ribbon…

(also this is largely for my own reference because I kind of want to do a bunch of SK-style doodles~)
